The START STOP button is used to start and stop the vehicle. Please also note the information on link►.
Activating the drive system

Important: The vehicle must not be connected to a charging cable link►, and the selector lever must be in position P or N.
  • Press the brake pedal.
  • Press the START STOP button.
When the vehicle is ready to be driven, the status message e-tron READY appears briefly in the instrument cluster display and the needle in the power meter moves to READY link►.
Driving
If the requirements for electric driving are fulfilled after the drive system has been activated, the vehicle will start with the electric motor link►.
The main conditions for driving can be found in the chapter on the automatic gearbox link►.
You and your passengers should always be aware that the vehicle drives off silently and can accelerate quickly.

Deactivating the drive system
  • Move the selector lever to position P.
  • Switch off the ignition with the START STOP button.
Switching the ignition on/off
You can switch on the ignition without activating the drive system.
  • To switch the ignition on/off, press the START STOP button without pressing the brake pedal.
When the ignition is switched on, the needle continues to point to OFF -1- Fig. ►.
None of the warning or indicator lamps is lit when the ignition is off.
Ignition is switched off automatically
To prevent the vehicle battery from being discharged, the ignition will be switched off automatically if certain conditions are met. For instance:
  • The vehicle has already been driven.
  • The vehicle is stationary.
  • The combustion engine is not running.
  • The driver has left the vehicle and the engine has not been restarted within approximately 30 seconds. Or:
  • The bonnet is open and the high-voltage battery is not sufficiently charged.
If the dipped beam headlights are switched on in this case, the side lights will be turned on instead. The message Side lights will be automatically switched off in 30 minutes. See owner s manual will appear on the instrument cluster display. After approx. 30 minutes, or when you lock the vehicle, the side lights will be switched off.
If the combustion engine has not been switched off, the engine continues to run and the ignition is not switched off automatically ►.
WARNING
Never run the engine in confined spaces. The exhaust gases are toxic – risk of poisoning!
Note
The vehicle cannot be started at outside temperatures below -28 °C link►.
