The parking lock must be released manually before the vehicle is towed.

The manual release mechanism is located in the centre armrest. Take the screwdriver and the red tool out of the tool kit.
Manual release of parking lock
Apply the parking brake link or press the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from rolling away.
Press one of the release buttons Fig. -1- and open the lid.
Remove the base cover.
Use the screwdriver to remove the slotted screw.
Press the release tab Fig. 65 and remove the plastic cover.
Take the tool out of the tool kit and swivel the handle up into a perpendicular position.
Position the tool over the plastic panel and insert it into the manual release mechanism Fig. 66.
Swivel the handle towards the rear in the direction of the arrow.
Leave the tool inserted.
Reactivation of parking lock
Swivel the tool forwards.
Remove the tool.
Insert the plastic cover and the base cover again.
When the parking lock has been released manually, the indicator lamp and selector lever position N will light up in the instrument cluster. In addition, the message Vehicle may roll away! P cannot be selected. Please apply parking brake will appear.
WARNING
  • Only use the manual release mechanism when the vehicle is on level ground or a slight gradient.
  • If you release the parking lock manually, apply the parking brake to prevent the vehicle from moving (or use the brake pedal if the parking brake is inoperational). If you do not apply the brake, the vehicle may roll away and cause an accident.
