Applies to vehicles: with manual gearbox, on-board computer and efficiency programme
Press the function selector switch Fig. 2 -A- repeatedly in the efficiency programme until the advanced gear-change indicator appears on the display.
The advanced gear-change indicator is based on the same logic as the "regular" gear-change indicator Link. The current and recommended gears are highlighted in traffic light colours (red/amber/green).
The colour of the circle indicates whether the car is already in the appropriate gear or whether you need to shift up or down.
Green circle with or without gear
Appropriate gear (or no gear) selected
Amber circle Fig. 1
Shift up/down one gear
Red circle
Shift up two gears
Caution!
The advanced gear-change indicator is intended to help save fuel. It is not intended to recommend the right gear for all driving situations. In certain situations, only the driver can choose the correct gear (for instance when overtaking, driving up a steep gradient or towing a trailer).
Note
  • The appearance of the advanced gear-change indicator is different on vehicles with a monochrome display.
  • The "regular" gear-change indicator* disappears from the display when the advanced gear-change indicator appears.
