- Fig. 1 Centre console OFF button
The ESP is switched on automatically when the engine is started.
Activating the sport mode
Press the
OFF button Fig. 1. The ESP then intervenes less for stabilisation purposes. On front-wheel drive vehicles, the traction control system (ASR) intervenes less; on four-wheel drive vehicles it is deactivated completely. The ESP indicator lamp will light up and the message Warning! Restricted stability WARNING! will appear on the driver information system display.
In the following special situations, it may be advisable to switch on the sport mode to allow a certain amount of wheel spin:
- Rocking the car backwards and forwards to free it
- Driving in deep snow or on loose surfaces
- Driving with snow chains
Deactivating the sport mode
Press the
OFF button again. The indicator lamp will go out and the message Stabilisation program on will appear on the driver information system display.
You should switch on the sport mode only if your driving ability and the traffic conditions allow you to do so safely. Please note that, when the sport mode is switched on, the driven wheels may start to spin, causing the vehicle to lose grip, in particular on slippery or wet roads - danger of skidding!
Note
- Sport mode cannot be activated when the adaptive cruise control* is on.
- In the event of a malfunction in the rear spoiler system, it may not be possible to activate the sport mode, or it may be deactivated again automatically.
