To change the bulbs, you must remove the rear light. Removing the light requires a certain degree of practical skill.
The description for changing the bulb refers to the left rear light unit in the boot lid; the procedure for the right rear light unit is similar.
Removing rear light
Check which of the bulbs is defective.
Push the cover in the boot lid in the direction indicated by the arrow Fig. 1.
Use the tool from the vehicle's tool kit to remove the securing nut and bolt Fig. 2. If the nut is difficult to remove, a screwdriver can be inserted through the holes on the tool.
Disengage the rear light, which is attached to the side of the boot lid.
Unplug the electrical connector.
Detach the bulb carrier.
Change the defective bulb Link.
Installing rear light
The black retaining bar must be screwed on before you install the rear light. First tighten the nut as far as the stop and then slacken it about 5 1/2 turns.
Plug the electrical connector into the rear light.
Hook the rear light into the side of the boot lid.
Press the rear light into the boot lid until it engages.
Using the tool from the vehicle's tool kit, tighten first the top screw and then the nut on the black retaining bar.
Slide the cover back into the boot lid.
To prevent leaks, check that the retaining bar in the rear light is correctly positioned relative to the boot lid.
Check that the bulb functions correctly.
When removing or installing the rear light, take care not to cause any damage.
- Removing the rear light in particular can lead to the paintwork or rear light becoming damaged. This is another reason why we recommend having the bulbs changed by a qualified workshop.
- NEVER use metal tools (e.g. a screwdriver) or sharp or pointed plastic tools to lever out the rear light - risk of damaging the paint.
Note
Make sure you have a soft cloth ready to place under the glass on the rear light, to avoid any scratches.
