- Fig. 1 Front of vehicle: Night vision camera
Applies to vehicles: with night vision assist
The night vision assist function may be impaired in the following situations:
- If visibility is impaired by snow, rain, fog or heavy road spray.
- If the night vision camera is dirty.
Please ensure that the night vision camera Fig. 1 is kept free of stickers, deposits and any other substances which could impair the function of the night vision assist. Notes on cleaning Link.
The system detects pedestrians by sensing a difference in temperature between the person and the background. If the difference is too small, pedestrians can no longer be detected. The pedestrian highlighting feature is therefore deactivated during the day or at outside temperatures at or above approx. 25 °C.
WARNING!
Always direct your full attention to the road and surroundings, even when you are using the night vision assist. It is always the driver's responsibility to assess the traffic situation and take appropriate care.
- The night vision assist can only warn you when people are within the infrared camera's range of vision. The range of vision corresponds to the image on the instrument cluster display.
-
People cannot be detected/highlighted by the night vision assist if
- they are not standing upright (e.g. if they are sitting, crouching or lying on the ground) and/or
- the silhouette on the display is incomplete or interrupted, e.g. because the person is partially obscured by a parked vehicle - risk of accident!
Note
- The system does not highlight or give warning of objects which have not been detected as pedestrians. Animals are not highlighted by the system. Even though the system can evaluate the shape of any object it detects, as well as the heat it is radiating, there are limits to the system performance, and false warnings cannot be ruled out completely.
- For technical reasons, the display image is frozen for fractions of a second at certain intervals.
