Applies to vehicles: with MMI touch pad
You can use the MMI touch pad for many important functions such
as entering letters and numbers.
Entering letters, numbers and symbols
Write the letter/number on the MMI touch pad using your finger
Link .
When the system recognises the letter/number, it will show it
on the MMI display -1-

and read it out loud.
To select an alternative letter/number -2-

turn the rotary pushbutton clockwise or anti-clockwise. The
selected letter/number will be copied into the entry field -3-

To enter a space, move your finger from left to right across
the touch pad.
To delete a letter/number, move your finger from right to left
across the touch pad.
You can confirm your entry by tapping the touch pad.
Moving the map/adjusting the sound focus
Press the rotary pushbutton. The crosshairs will appear on the
map.
To move the crosshairs vertically, move your finger up/down
on the touch pad.
To move the crosshairs horizontally, move your finger to the
left/right on the touch pad.
To move the crosshairs diagonally, move your finger to the top
left/right or the bottom left/right on the touch pad.
Storing/tuning to a radio station
To tune to a stored radio station directly, tap on one of the
digits (1-6) on the touch pad. The radio memory keys (1-6) will
be displayed on the MMI screen -1-

and the system will tune to the selected station.
To store the station that the radio is currently tuned to, keep
your finger on one of the digits (1-6) on the touch pad until
you hear a tone. The radio station will be stored in the selected
position in the memory list.
The following status displays for the various entry options can
be shown on the MMI touch pad:
- 1 - 6 = option for direct selection of stored radio stations is activated.
- Arrows = Album browser function has been selected Link, option for adjusting the sound focus or moving the map in navigation mode is activated.
- Rounded corners = writing mode with handwriting recognition is activated.
You can tap or press and hold the arrows
on the MMI touch pad to either move the crosshairs on a map or adjust
the sound focus, browse through album covers or operate the DVD
main menu.
When you are in the directory, you can jump directly to the initial
letter of the contact you are looking for by writing this letter
on the touch pad with your finger. You can narrow down the choice
of contacts in the list by entering more letters.
In the directory you can select the function
Find contact if you want to stop entering
letters for the contact; you can then jump directly to the selection
list of the contacts found by tapping the touch pad.
In navigation mode you can stop entering letters e.g. for a destination
and jump directly to the selection list of e.g. the towns found
by tapping the touch pad.

you can change your station/memory selection by moving your finger
to the left/right on the touch pad.
