Applies to: vehicles with automatic gearbox
The parking lock must be released manually before the vehicle can be recovered/manoeuvred.
The manual release mechanism is located beneath a cover in the front cup holder.
Manual release of parking lock
Apply the parking brake link► or press the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from rolling away.
Remove the rubber mat.
There is a slot next to the cover. Insert the screwdriver (provided in the vehicle s tool kit) in the slot and prise open the cover Fig. 117►.
Insert the box spanner (from the tool kit) into the opening Fig. 118►.
Turn the box spanner clockwise as far as the stop -1- and then push it downwards -2- until it engages.
Leave the box spanner inserted ►.
Reactivation of parking lock
Press the brake pedal and start the engine.
Keep your foot on the brake pedal and move the selector lever to positions N and D and back to N.
Switch off the engine again.
Take hold of the box spanner with both hands and pull it out carefully upwards ►.
Insert the cover and rubber mat again.
When the parking lock has been released manually, the indicator lamp and selector lever position N will light up in the instrument cluster. In addition, the message Vehicle may roll away! P cannot be selected. Please apply parking brake will appear.
- Only use the manual release mechanism when the vehicle is on level ground or a slight gradient.
- The parking lock must only be released manually when the parking brake is applied. If this does not work, use the brake pedal to hold the vehicle or use wheel chocks or similar to block one of the front and rear wheels. If you do not apply the brake, the vehicle may roll away and cause an accident.
- You must not drive the vehicle if the parking brake has been released manually - risk of accident!
