Applies to Audi A3s: with plug-in hybrid drive
The START STOP button is used to start and stop the Audi A3. Please also note the information on ►Link.
Activating the drive system
Please refer to WARNING!.
Important: The selector lever must be in position P or N.
- Press the brake pedal.
- Press the START STOP button.
When the Audi A3 is ready to be driven, the status message e-tron READY appears briefly in the instrument cluster display and the needle in the power meter moves to READY ►Link.
If the requirements for electric driving are fulfilled, the Audi A3 will start with the electric motor ►Link.

Deactivating the drive system
- Move the selector lever to position P.
- Switch off the ignition with the START STOP button.
Switching the ignition on/off
You can switch on the ignition without activating the drive system.
- To switch the ignition on/off, press the START STOP button without pressing the brake pedal.
When the ignition is switched on, the needle continues to point to OFF -1- Fig. 1.
None of the warning or indicator lamps is lit when the ignition is off.
Ignition is switched off automatically
To prevent the battery from being discharged, the ignition will be switched off automatically if certain conditions are met. For instance:
- The Audi A3 has already been driven.
- The Audi A3 is stationary.
- The combustion engine is not running.
- The driver's door is opened.
- The driver's seat belt is unbuckled.
- The brake pedal is not pressed.
If the dipped beam headlights are switched on in this case, the side lights will be turned on instead. The message Side lights will be automatically switched off in 30 minutes. See owner's manual will appear on the instrument cluster display. After approx. 30 minutes, or when you lock the Audi A3, the side lights will be switched off.
If the combustion engine has not been switched off, the engine continues to run and the ignition is not switched off automatically WARNING!.
