- Fig. 2 Open driver's door (LHD Audi A1): Sticker listing tyre pressures
Applies to Audi A1s: with tyre pressure monitoring
The tyre pressure warning lamp in the instrument cluster will come on if the tyre pressure is too low.
The tyre pressure monitoring system makes use of the ABS sensors to compare the speed and therefore the rolling circumference of the wheels. If the rolling circumference of one of the wheels changes, the tyre pressure warning lamp will light up. The driver will also be warned by an acoustic signal. The rolling circumference of a tyre can change if:
- the tyre pressure is too low.
- the tyre has suffered structural damage.
- the Audi A1 load is not balanced (more load on one side).
- there is more load on the wheels of one of the axles (e.g. when towing a trailer or driving up or down a gradient).
- you are driving with snow chains.
- you are driving with the temporary spare wheel.
- only one wheel of an axle has been changed.
Storing tyre pressures with the SET button.
Monitoring of the tyre pressures is based on the tyre pressures you have stored.
After every change to the wheels on your Audi A1, e.g. if you have changed the tyre pressure Link or changed the tyres Link, you must also update the settings in the tyre pressure monitoring system. To do so, the Audi A1 must be stationary and the ignition must be switched on. Press the button for the tyre pressure monitoring system Fig. 1 until you hear a tone.
If the wheels are under a heavy load (e.g. when towing a trailer or carrying a heavy weight) the tyre pressure must be increased to the recommended pressure for a full load (see sticker Fig. 2) and the new tyre pressures must be stored.
Storing tyre pressures in driver information system*
In addition to the SET button, you can also use the driver information system to store the tyre pressures. With the ignition on, select function selector button CAR > Servicing & checks > Tyre pressure monitoring. A beep tone confirms that the values have been successfully stored.
If the wheels are under a heavy load (e.g. when towing a trailer or carrying a heavy weight) the tyre pressure must be increased to the recommended pressure for a full load (see sticker Fig. 2) and the new tyre pressures must be stored.
Tyre pressure warning lamp lights up
The tyre pressure warning lamp lights up if the tyre pressure on one wheel is significantly lower than the tyre pressure setting which was confirmed by the driver WARNING!.
If the warning lamp does not go out when the tyre pressure has been corrected, there is a fault in the system. Please contact the nearest qualified workshop.
- If the tyre pressure warning lamp lights up you must slow down immediately and avoid any severe braking or steering manoeuvres. As soon as you can do so safely, stop and check the tyres and the tyre pressures.
- It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that the tyre pressures are correct. For this reason you must check the tyre pressures regularly.
- Never re-adjust the tyre inflation pressure when the tyre is hot. This can cause serious damage to the tyre or even a blow-out, which could result in an accident.
- Under-inflated tyres flex more and can overheat at continuous high speeds. This can cause tread separation and tyre blow-out, which could result in an accident.
- Under certain conditions (e.g. driving at high speeds, on ice and snow or on poor road surfaces) the tyre pressure warning lamp may not light up immediately or not at all.
Note
- If you did not press the button for the tyre pressure monitoring system to confirm a new tyre pressure setting after making changes to the tyre pressures or changing one or more wheels, the warning lamp may light up although the tyre pressures are correct. In this case you should stop at the earliest opportunity to check and confirm the tyre pressures by pressing the button for the tyre pressure monitoring system until you hear a tone.
- The indicator lamp will also light up after switching on the ignition if the battery was temporarily disconnected. It should, however, go out as soon as you have driven a short distance.
- Do not store the tyre pressures if you are driving with snow chains. Otherwise, a system malfunction may occur.
